Dacia Engines: Everything you need to know about Dacia engines
Dacia is the best-known Romanian car manufacturer and today a full subsidiary of the French carmaker Renault. Dacia models are considered robust and are known for their reasonable prices. They are often based on Renault technology.
Together with Nissan and Mitsubishi, Renault and thus also Dacia belong to an alliance of carmakers that also develop joint models and engines. Some Dacia engines are known for their low fuel consumption, others cause problems with elongated timing chains.
Dacia Engines Overview
Depending on the vehicle, Dacia engines are installed in different variants as diesel, petrol or electric motors. The designation of the engines often contains the approximate power of the respective engine in hp. For example, the petrol engine with the designation TCe 150 produces exactly 150 hp.
Dacia petrol engine
- Dacia SCe engines: Dacia engines with the SCe designation are petrol engines that operate as purely naturally aspirated engines without turbochargers. The abbreviation SCe stands for Smart Control Efficiency. This type of Dacia engine is installed as a three-cylinder and four-cylinder engine. It is considered robust and provides sufficient driving performance. It is installed in the Dacia Sandero, Duster and Logan models.
- Dacia TCe engines: A Dacia TCe engine is a petrol engine that has a turbocharger. The term TCe stands for Turbo Control Efficiency. The modern turbo engines are installed in the Duster, Sandero, Lodgy or Logan with three or four cylinders and with intake manifold injection or direct injection.
- Dacia GPF engines: If a Dacia engine bears the designation GPF, it is a petrol engine with an additional particulate filter. The term GPF is an abbreviation for Gasoline Particulate Filter. As with the diesel, the particulate filter ensures improved exhaust gas values. This type of Dacia engine can be found, for example, as TCe 130 GPF in the Dacia Dokker.
Dacia diesel engines
- Dacia dCi engines: The diesel engines used by Dacia are modern turbo-diesels with the designation dCi. The three letters dCi stand for Diesel Common Rail Injection, with which this type of engine is equipped. The engines with four cylinders in series have an exhaust gas turbocharger and are installed in various versions in the Duster model.
Alternative drives from Dacia
- Dacia ECO-G engines: Dacia engines with the ECO-G designation are bivalent engines that can run on petrol or LPG. The basis is a petrol engine with three cylinders and a turbocharger. The Dacia LPG engines are installed, for example, in the Dacia Sandero or the Dacia Jogger.
- Dacia electric motor: In the electric model Dacia Spring, Dacia installs motors as permanent magnet synchronous motors. The drive concept with fixed gear ratio and front-wheel drive, together with a 26.8 kWh battery, ensures a combined range of 230 km according to WLTP. Consumption according to WLTP is 13.9 kWh per 100 km.

Buy used Dacia engines
If the Dacia engine in your car has problems, a replacement engine at a favourable price provides a quick remedy. Instead of an expensive repair of the defective engine, a used original engine from a car recycling centre is installed in the Dacia.
In particular, high oil loss or a lengthened timing chain can quickly lead to engine damage with certain Dacia engines. Compared to a new engine, Dacia engines in exchange can score points mainly due to their prices.
