The history of Peugeot

The original Peugeot was founded all the way back in 1810. The company produced bicycles and coffee grinders for the first 80 years of its history. In 1889, however, Armand Peugeot built the company’s first car, together with Leon Serpollet. It had only three wheels and ran on steam.

The following year – in 1890 – they made the first car with an internal combustion engine. From then on, it was full speed ahead. In 1913, every other French car was a Peugeot. And, in 1952, the group made its millionth car.

Today, Peugeot belongs to the PSA Peugeot Citroën Group, the second largest car manufacturer in Europe.
