Peugeot engines: What you should know about Peugeot engines
.
Peugeot is one of the best-known French car brands. Peugeot was one of the first manufacturers to decide to offer cars with several drive technologies in parallel. Many models of the brand are therefore available with different Peugeot engines for petrol or diesel, with electric motor or with hybrid drive. For the French carmaker, the main focus is on high engine efficiency in terms of performance and fuel consumption.
Until the beginning of 2021, Peugeot was merged with other car brands in the PSA car group. Since then, the French car brand has belonged to the Stellantis group. Therefore, not every Peugeot model contains pure Peugeot engines. Often engines from other car manufacturers or common technologies of the brands were used.
Many modern petrol engines from Peugeot were further developed as three-cylinder engines in the course of downsizing. In addition, many Peugeot models can be fitted with fuel-efficient diesel engines. Peugeot engines are generally considered to be of high quality. However, some older models are affected by elongated timing chains and defective chain tensioners.
Designations of Peugeot engines
- DV Blue HDI: DV engines were developed jointly by PSA and the Ford brand. These engines for diesel can be found in numerous Peugeot models. DV Blue HDI engines have four cylinders in line and turbocharging. They were and are produced with different displacements.
- DW Blue HDI: DW engines were designed by PSA as Peugeot engines and for the Citroen brand. These are diesel engines with turbochargers, developed in different variants and displacement sizes.
- EW engines: As petrol engines, the EW line was designed by the PSA group for Peugeot and Citroen. The petrol engines with overhead valves are the counterpart to the diesel variant DW. Many models are equipped with these Peugeot engines in different displacement variants.
- EB Puretech: Puretech units are Peugeot engines of the downsize generation. These modern three-cylinder engines have an aluminium engine block with fewer individual parts. Most versions of the Puretech engines are equipped with a turbocharger.
- Prince: Peugeot engines named Price were developed by PSA together with BMW. This incorporated technologies such as direct petrol injection and BMW’s variable camshaft timing. The petrol engines can be found in two displacement sizes with and without turbocharging at Peugeot.

.
- VTi 72 STOP & START: The VTi-72 engine is a 3-cylinder in-line engine with 1 litre displacement and low fuel consumption. As a compact and lightweight engine for petrol, it also has a STOP & START function. These engines with optimised combustion are installed, for example, in the Peugeot 108.
- 1.2l PureTech 75 Di: As a compact drive unit with three cylinders and 1.2 litres of displacement, the PureTech 75 Di is mainly used in smaller models from Peugeot. For example, it is installed in the Peugeot 208. Combined with a manual gearbox, it delivers 75 hp.
- 2.0l BlueHDi 180 STOP & START:These diesel engines from Peugeot are available as a fuel-saving drive unit in several models with STOP & START function. The engine type has four cylinders in an in-line arrangement and is installed, for example, in the Peugeot 5008 in combination with an automated transmission.
- 1.2l PureTech 130: The 1.2l PureTech 130 produces 130 hp and is available, for example, in the Peugeot 508. The engine, designed as a 3-cylinder in-line engine, has a displacement of 1.2 litres and achieves the Euro 6d emissions standard.
- 1.5l BlueHDi 130: As a diesel with high torque and low consumption, the 1.5l BlueHDi 130 is popular among long-distance drivers, among others. This engine is also available in several Peugeot models, including the Peugeot 508. With 1.5 litres of displacement and four cylinders in line, the engine achieves a peak output of 130 hp.
- HYBRID 180 e-EAT8: As a hybrid, the 180 e-EAT8 combines an internal combustion engine with an electric drive. This results in a system output of 180 hp. Due to the hybrid concept, less fuel is consumed with this drive unit. In combination with the automatic EAT8 transmission, this engine can be found, for example, in series such as the Peugeot 308.
- HYBRID 225 e-EAT8: The HYBRID 225 e-EAT8 is also a hybrid concept mated to an automatic transmission. As a combined powertrain with a 1.6 litre internal combustion engine for petrol and an electric drive, this drive unit consumes very little fuel. This hybrid drive with 225 hp is available for the Peugeot 308, for example.
- 1.5l BlueHDi 100: This engine for diesel has a displacement of 1.5 litres and is equipped with four cylinders in series. Together with a manual gearbox, the diesel engine is available in the Peugeot 208, for example. A diesel-typical high torque and a power output of 100 hp provide propulsion with this diesel engine.
- 1.2l PureTech 100: With manual transmission or also with 8-speed automatic, the PureTech 100 petrol engine is available from Peugeot. The engine type with 1.2 litres displacement is designed as a 3-cylinder in-line engine. The power of 100 hp makes this engine a popular equipment option in the compact Peugeot 208 model, for example.
- Peugeot e-motor: The Peugeot e-motor is installed in all models with purely electric drive, such as the e-208 or the e-2008. The drive unit, designed as an electric motor with permanent magnet, achieves a maximum output of 100 kW or correspondingly 136 hp. The maximum torque is 260 Nm.
How to buy the right Peugeot engine
Cars from Peugeot are often used for many years. The engines do not always last that long, especially with high mileage. After an engine failure, it is sometimes worth fitting a used Peugeot engine. When exchanging engines, you should make sure to choose the right engine for your car. At Autoparts24.eu, selecting the right Peugeot engines from many car recyclers is easy.
After entering the vehicle model or the details from the vehicle registration document, all suitable offers are listed. This enables a convenient comparison between the individual engines. In addition, helpful information such as the mileage, the year of manufacture or the corresponding engine code is displayed for each offer. This shortens the reading time and makes it easier to select a suitable used engine. All Peugeot engines are conveniently delivered to your home.
