The history of VW Passat

The first VW Passat saw the light of day back in 1973. It was designed by the Italian car designer Giorgetto Giugiaro. Giugiaro is practically a legend, and he has also designed cars like Ferrari GG50, Maserati Spyder and – not to forget – DeLorean DMC-12, the car from the film series ‘Back to the Future’.

The first model was based on Audi 80. Over the years, several versions of Passat have been closely linked to Audi 80 as well as Audi A4. But today VW Passat is built on its very own platform.
